EMARAN’S background

How EMARAN developed

The idea for EMARAN came from artsNK, the arts development organisation for North Kesteven, in Lincolnshire. The Culture in Rural Development programme at Culture East Midlands supported us by holding a launch event in November 2006 attended by people from across the rural culture sector. As a result, EMARAN developed a managerial structure and organises two conferences per year. artsNK have remained on the steering group and administrate the project alongside development coordinators Gillian Bates and Celia Makin–Bell.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create opportunities for artists, creative practitioners, creative industries and cultural organisations in the rural East Midlands to meet, build relationships, share experience and knowledge, and act as an advocate for rural culture. This work embraces the voluntary, community and statutory sectors. We also aim to make connections and create partnership working with other sectors of relevance to rural culture such as rural regeneration, tourism and economic development.
